Professor of Chemistry
Universiti Putra Malaysia, Selangor, Malaysia.
Khozirah Shaari is a Professor of Chemistry at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Selangor, Malaysia. She obtained her PhD in 1994 from University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland and spent 12 years in forest chemistry research at the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM). In the year 2001 she joined Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as an academian, and continued to actively pursue research at the Laboratory of Natural Products (LHS), Institute of Bioscience, UPM, where she is presently Head of Laboratory. Her major expertise is in the isolation and structure elucidation of natural products using spectroscopic methods, GCMS/LCMS-based metabolite dereplication and profiling, and metabolomics. Her research interests centers on the discovery of new bioactive compounds from plants, with a focus on those that may be useful for diabetes and inflammation. In recent years, her interests have expanded into applications of NMR-based and LCMS-based metabolomics in natural products and traditional medicine research. Prof. Khozirah has published over 190 scientific papers, has a h-index of 24 and 2274 citations. She is presently an Associate Editor for Journal of Ethnopharmacology (Elsevier) and an Editorial Board Member for Phytochemical Analysis (Wiley), while actively reviewing papers in top-tier chemistry- and biomedical-related journals. She is also a committee member of the Malaysian Natural Products Society and board member of Asian Network of Research on Anti-diabetic Plants (ANRAP).
